It's a funny way to get to know a member of the congregation a little better, spring cleaning her garage. (Especially when that garage is far more pristine than any room in my home!). But working alongside someone is indeed a good way to get to know them, and somehow cleaning for someone else is far more fun than doing housework in your own home, even when it does involve spiders and cobwebs. (I think I must be the only person in Christendom who apologises continually and gives the spiders each a five minute eviction order before taking the broom to their homes)
Yes, Saturday was the day when my promise from the promise auction at church was finally cashed in. Two hours of being a "spare pair of hands". And it was especially good to know that the money raised from the auction paid for the Smudgelet to go to Breakout at Cliff College last weekend. In fact, with him at Breakout last weekend, a sleepover at a friend's house this weekend, and off to camp for a week next weekend, I'm starting to forget what the Smudgelet looks like (rather a shame that most of the time was taken up with work!)
One week on and life is once again becoming a little less "Overcast". It's a sadness that is permanently there in the background, but not quite as overwhelming as last week, and my capacity to have fun has returned at last. Yippee! Mind you, two meals out yesterday undoubtedly helped (and also helped solve the dilemma of the washing up bowl. It's the Smudgelet's turn to wash up and remains his turn until it is finally done, at which point it becomes my turn. However it was hard to work out the most effective way forward when it got to the end of all the crockery and cutlery and he'd gone off to spend a weekend at his friend's!)
