Mind, I guess it was more like breakfast time in Australia.
Tea was lovely.
Wonderful gifts.
Wonderful company.

I was delighted with Smudgelet's gifts. One was a headphones and microphone set for me to use with Skype. Yippee! Perfect choice, Smudgelet (though I suspect a small person is rather hoping to get a share in them). The other present was a real surprise. For both of us. He handed it to me and I read the label and turned to him for a kiss. He looked at me, with one of those "For Pete's sake what's up with you now, mum?" looks. I checked the label again. Yes, it was from him. I tried again, cos it said "With hugs and kisses" on the label and I was expecting a hug and kiss before I opened it. Once again I got the puzzled look. Then the penny dropped and he started to laugh. The present was one he'd bought me a year ago and had asked Honorary Auntie M to put in a safe place for me. She had. So safe, that they'd both totally forgotten its existance and she'd only just found it in time to give it to me this year.

Semi-expected tears. Eldest son had been conspiring with Honorary Auntie M. Several phone calls and letters had passed between the two in the last couple of weeks. He'd given her precise instructions as to what he wanted her to buy - she has a little money box at her house with his name on it into which she's always put some money when he does things which she wants to reward, so she was able to take his money and use it to buy me a necklace which I'll be able to wear and show him when I visit on Sunday. And following his instructions, she cut "Love from Tiddles" out of a piece of paper which he sent her, glued it in one of those cards with an oval on the front where you can put a picture, and fastened a favourite photograph of him into the front. Bless him.

Now I'm off for an early night - busy day tomorrow.
