Well, if today wasn't a self-indulgence day, I don't know what would be!
But I have been good - I haven't exceeded my calorie intake for the day (yet), despite not having really had any exercise (yet). I may do a few jobs or go to the gym later, though I have a sneaky feeling I may not! Well, when you feel this good, it's a shame to spoil it, don't you think?
So what have I been up to? Well, not a million miles from here (and let's face it, nowhere on the Island is a million miles from here) a new hotel has been built. Very swish, actually, though nowhere near as swish as the beautiful God-made location for it which is one of my favourite places. I'm glad the hotel has been built to blend with the environment rather than exploit it. Now this extremely expensive hotel has a brasserie open to non-residents which sells fish and chips, for example, for around £10 a plate and a cheap overnight room is £99 for the night. I love the term brasserie - a supposedly posh name for a small restaurant and yet it sounds far too like brasier to be taken seriously! So I was fairly convinced that the spa they've included would be way beyond my means. But a letter inviting me to sample their delights at a highly reduced cost simply couldn't be ignored.
Heaven.
The spa itself was lovely. I could whinge and say that I wished the swimming pool was slightly longer (I think it's 10m) and wider (two people swimming in there was enough), that the changing room had cubicles rather than being open plan, and that there was a clock so you could relax, knowing how much time you had (must remember to take a watch next time), but all in all I have to say it was sheer heaven. Sauna and steam room, of course, and the warmest and most welcoming jacuzzi imaginable, all with their own subtle scents. And an "experience shower" where you could choose one of four settings. No ordinary shower, this. Not only did the temperature change (deliberately, not like when someone at home flushes the loo and you get a sudden cold shock or scalding flood of water from the shower), but the lighting in the cubicle, the jets of water, the scent, even a sudden burst of gentle mist, as you chose between "tropical storm", "white shower", "cool mist" and ...oh bother, I've forgotten the fourth - something to do with rainforests I think. White shower was my favourite - I could have stood under that one all day.
I simply had to sign up for their month's membership. It was too pricey to justify really, until I saw that they do an "off peak" membership, which means you can go any time between 7am and 9pm any day from Monday to Thursday for £35 for the month. That seemed fairly affordable, especially as they provide towels and luxurious shampoos and shower gels etc. For the next month I shouldn't need to use the shower at home at all - I should be soooooooo clean!
Well, having gone there to explore, I couldn't really say that I'd given the place a good going over until I'd actually tried one of their numerous different massages. Not something I could afford to indulge in every day, although my membership also gives me 10% off so I might be able to justify another session before the end of the month.
It.
Was.
BLISS!
And to then be offered half an hour in their "Relaxation room" - an amazing room, with subtle lighting and decor and gentle music and a really relaxing aroma, and most importantly, the most comfortable bed I have ever graced with my poor aching body. I was afraid I'd fall asleep and miss it, but actually I just laid back and found myself floating in a luxurious state of total relaxation. I could get used to this.
What a shame to come back home to the state my house is in. But I don't care. I'm happy! :D
