The top of the fireplace is the perfect place to stand the advent candle as it is heatproof and level and out of the way. The suitability of this spot, however, decreases once you decide the weather is cold enough for you to put the fire on.
It is very discouraging when you are trying to diet and exercise more and suddenly the bathroom scales betray you and start moving in the opposite direction.

Technology hates me. The washing machine is now permanently stuck on rinse, and the clock on the timer of our central heating is out of sync with reality. I'd stick my head in the gas oven but it probably would refuse to work.
Careers advice assessments are not always the best resource to use when considering a change from teaching. Those of you who know me will be able to form your own opinion as to whether "sports instructor" or "footballer" would be my ideal jobs, whereas "probation officer" or "prison officer" is really just taking the biscuit! And how come the jobs that I really would love to do are the jobs which only pay peanuts? I think the job I really need is "kept woman".
