In the ongoing saga of the DVD player problem, it was with great pleasure that I noticed in the clearance bin at a well known and reputable bookstore a very special item at a very special price. A CD of The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas - an audiobook - going cheap. Knowing that this is one of eldest son's favourite books, I immediately purchased it and took it with me when I went to see him on Monday.
Ah, no wonder it was so cheap. Would you believe this reputable bookstore (from which I have made many a purchase to augment my meaningful clutter problem) had sold me a pig in a poke, a dog in the manger, a fake in a CD box? The cursory test done by prison staff to ensure all CDs are originals revealed that this was, in fact, an illegal pirate copy! The strange thing was, I suddenly felt (and must have looked) incredibly guilty!
Luckily eldest son found it quite funny (hmmm).
Unfortunately I was in Glasgow at the time that I bought it - I wonder if I can wangle a trip back up there to take it back! To post it would cost almost as much as I paid for the CD itself. I should have known that price was too good to be true. It costs six times as much on Amazon - I know, I looked it up.
