Sad

It's been a sad evening. I've been ironing my son's clothes and sorting them into bags for the charity shop and, a much smaller pile, things I can bear to see the Smudgelet wearing. The one bonus is that someone on freecycle was looking for teenagers' clothes to send to Romania to a place their church supports, so I have emailed to see if they are still needed there. Sorting his room out to make it more suitable for visitors is hard but yet another thing on my "got to face it one day" list. That and trying to think what to do about Christmas cards (and even presents) for those former friends who, when push came to shove, proved that my doctor wasn't far wrong when she said "you'll find out who your true friends really are". :(

Still, it's not all bad. It was a beautiful sunny day today which really lifted my spirits this morning, and even more so when a sudden movement by my shoulder made me jump while I was busy replying to a few emails. Who could possibly be so close in the garden so's to look in through the lounge window? I turned nervously round and there, peeping straight in at me, eye to eye, was the most beautiful red squirrel. He sat there for ages, cheeky as anything. For anyone who is reading from furrin lands, the red squirrel is the native squirrel of Britain, almost eradicated by the invading greys. The Island is one of their remaining sanctuaries (the grey squirrels can't afford the extortionate ferry fare!)> Having one visit my garden most days is one of the most magical things for me, but to have one getting brave enough to peep in and maintain eye contact was simply amazing.

Freecycle also brought a nice treat. Someone had accidentally bought the wrong topup voucher for their mobile. And guess what - it was my type of mobile :D And I cheered myself up considerably by going through another freecycle special - a bag of baby goodies for a special baby-to-be. :D

On impulse, I also took the Smudgelet out for tea to the local carvery. That was a good move too - no cooking, no washing up, and a good plateful of healthy food to keep us both going.

Oh, and a link to lolcatz (I love the cats and the comments but detest the lolcatz grammar massacre under normal circumstances!) was a link that did indeed make me smile!
