Thought for the day: Why is life so perverse? When you have something to log, you don't have time to log it. When you have all the time in the world, there's nothing to say.
It's been a busy few weeks - quite uncharacteristically so - and mostly the Ship of Fools is to blame. (Agggggghhh - I have just this moment remembered I could have been out with a group of colleagues tonight. I had a feeling there was a reason I needed a babysitter! )
The Dublin meet was utterly fantastic - indescribable. I had never been to Dublin before, there were people going that I had met before and others I had looked forward to meeting, and above all, it was the first time I had been away without the children or my father in several years. Freeeeeeeeeeeeedom. The boys had an exciting weekend with their aunt and uncle (who said they would willingly have them again... in about ten years time when the exhaustion has worn off) and I suddenly found myself unshackled. Bliss!
The following weekend I escaped again for an evening to hear some live music - an education, but a really surprisingly enjoyable one. There's nothing quite like hearing live music from talented musicians, is there?
Now here I am making a host of phonecalls and perusing websites to organise a weekend meet here in April(I must be mad!) and to organise our long weekend away next weekend. It's an organisational nightmare, tying up all the loose ends.
The Smudgelet has been poorly - chicken pox followed by tummy ache. Sadly he wasn't poorly enough for me to justify time off work, though I did get the delight of applying the calamine lotion and making him giggle till he begged for mercy. There've been a few issues with Tiddles which have taken some patience and understanding but, thank God, we seem to have resolved those at last, and had a lovely evening together last night watching Star Wars... the originals... (him for the excitement of watching the spaceships, me for the delight of watching Harrison Ford yet again! Mmmmmmmmm)
I finally got round to spring cleaning the kitchen the other day, by the way. Boy did it look good. Sparkling from artex to lino, with even the inside of the oven and the fridge and freezer spotless. I rewarded myself with a sit down at the computer while my bacon-buttie-to-be sizzled away under the grill. Could somebody please remind me to put a new battery in the smoke alarm? It could have come in very handy. Still, the flames were quite pretty really, and I am sure I heard somewhere that "white with a hint of soot" was the in colour for kitchens this year.
I have decided I seriously need to lose some weight. I have a target date - June 2004 - so plenty of time yet. No point starting until all this chocolate is out of the way, though, is there?
