I won at Scrabble.

OK, so it was only Junior Scrabble and I was playing my five-year-old, but it's the first time I've beaten him. He's obviously not well.

I feel every so slightly guilty for staying at home with him today. He's not well, though, and I've just put him back to bed for an hour, poor boy. But it's been rather nice just pootling the morning away instead of going to work. At his suggestion we used the internet to find out precisely how bees make honey. If you like honey, I suggest you do not try this exercise!

I thought I saw a sparrow hawk in my oak tree this afternoon, but it flew off before I could be certain. Sometimes it would be really handy to be able to rewind life.

It's really cold today. I have put the central heating on but still I am frozen. Do I give in and put the fire on? After all, it is still February so I suppose it's officially still winter and I'm justified, but the sun is shining outside and it just seems a bit defeatist. Maybe a coffee and a huge bar of chocolate would help. I was going to start my diet this week, but I realised that I need to lose weight for an event in a year and a half's time. If I do it now, I shall only put it on again and be depressed and frustrated. Better to wait until nearer the time. I'll probably start a week before the actual event. Far more sensible.

Achievement of the week: have mastered making paper cranes in origami. Well, I think they look a bit like cranes. Someone said they were supposed to look like a type of bird rather than heavy lifting appliances, but what do they know?

Thought for the week: The cranes are being sent to some Cub Scouts in America from people round the world as a symbol of peace. When I posted them, the postmaster wanted to know the value of them. What do you say?
