What a long day

Well, yesterday was my second full day in school and I am absolutely shattered. I could sleep for Britain! Luckily the classes are all doing a maths investigation which has them absolutely enthralled. I don't know that they are getting much maths out of it, some of them, but it's doing them good to concentrate intently on something and to enjoy their work, and it's doing me good to be able to take it a bit easy. Even L was able to concentrate on it for a whole lesson and his work was good enough to show the class as an example of how it should look. This contrasted considerably with Literacy when he was climbing over the desks, waving a ruler, and barricading the caravan door!

The Book Man had been to school, which meant a lovely stock of books in the staffroom to peruse. Needless to say, we were all drawn to the toddler's book - you had to read the questions and put a little mouse over the right picture and press the button and it would say "uh-oh" or "yay!" depending on whether you were right or wrong. It was me who discovered it was faulty - though everyone reckoned it was just that I can't count.

I managed my walk to the shop to buy my lunch - working on the principle that I might lose some weight that way. I nearly fell asleep in the staffroom eating it, though. I did my trip to the Ship during the afternoon's non-contact while I updated my medium term planning. Maddeningly, there was one bit I couldn't do without reference to some info at home, so I emailed the planning sheet to myself, only to discover that it's a different version of Publisher and won't work at home. Typical!

After an hour's deep sleep (during which I was woken, rather strangely, by a phone call for my sister who had obviously given the people the wrong mobile number!) I steeled myself to keep my promise to make pancakes. Most delicious they were too - apart, of course, for mine which ended up a mangled mess as always. How come I can make beautiful pancakes for everybody else but my own never work? Mind you, learning to toss them correctly - or rather, learning never to try tossing them again - would help. It was easy enough to get off the floor, but not so easy to get off my shoe!

The kitchen was lovely and toasty warm when I got up this morning, but the pancake I had left in the oven to keep warm last night ended up a bit overdone! Must remember to put the new battery in the smoke alarm.

Day one of Lent went well - I will record it in a Wiblog later today.
