Mother's Day

:D

There you go, how's that for a grin? I feel as though I am living in a florist's shop - five, yes five vases full of flowers and two boxes of chocolates. (OK, so I was trying to give them up, but you can't disappoint the children, can you?) One home-made bookmark from the Smudgelet and a home-made box with perfume in it from Tiddles, made at Sunday School, and a card made by Smudgelet at school. Talk about guilt - Tiddles was upset as he was half way through making my card at Cubs, and I had banned him from going to Cubs last Friday so he couldn't finish it and bring it home. Serves me right for being a mean mean mum, I suppose!

Church was a bit strange this morning - I didn't like the children's address at all, and it sort of put me off listening to the rest of the sermon. I don't know what the boys made of it and am hesitant to ask them. They enjoyed distributing the flowers, though. Our church gets the children to give posies of primroses to all the adults - and not specifically to their own mothers. I must admit a lump rather came to my throat when, just as all the children were going back to their seats, my Smudgelet grabbed a posy and ran up and gave it to the rather dour old minister. Everyone simultaneously "ahhh"-ed, and the minister's face broke into a smile. *gulp* *sniff*

Mother's Day treat this afternoon? Well, taking Dad to the hospital to visit his friend. We dropped him off then whizzed along to the garden centre for half an hour to visit the pets. We were really taken with the two talking birds - Brolley the Cockatoo who charmed the Smudgelets by saying "Hello boys" and..wait for it... Jasper Parrot ! It is really a good job that the boys are unaware of how easy it would be for them to persuade me to have a rabbit or a guinea pig, against my better judgement. There was a really gorgeous dwarf lop-eared bunny who'd have been installed in a hutch in our garden faster than you can say "Benjamin Bunny" if the boys had but said "mummy, can we have...." !

Major disappointment of the day : No icecreams in the cafe. "Come back next week" the girl said. Huh!

Last night was a bit of a treat. I was whisked away to a concert by a tall, dark, handsome man. Well, dark and handsome, not that tall. Oh, and it was me who took him and paid for the tickets. Oh, and the gentleman in question was my dad. But it was a bit of a treat anyway. The local church is raising £30,000 (Yes, £30,000!) for a new organ, so they hosted a military band concert which was truly superb. One added bonus was that I caught sight of one of the clarinettists waving madly and suddenly realised it was a long lost friend, someone I hadn't seen for two years or more. A second bonus was that Dad won the prize for having his programme number drawn out of the hat - a magnificent, and I mean magnificent, basket of fruit. Drawback - I have spent half the evening stood in the kitchen making fruit salad!

Thought for the day : I am a very blessed woman.
