The night before my birthday and I am miserable as sin. Fancy having arthritis diagnosed the day before your birthday. I ache, and I feel old. How could the doctor do this to me? (OK, so it wasn't his fault, but I have to blame somebody)
I'm not really looking forward to my birthday very much. I have a lovely little pile of cards from friends, so I shouldn't feel so lonely really. And it was my idea that my sisters shouldn't pay postage on my presents but should give them to me when I go to visit at the end of the month. But my father arrived at the door this evening, shoved an envelope in my hand and said "There's some money in there, and your card, get yourself something for your birthday will you?" And I know he's done nothing about organising the boys even to get me a card, let alone a present. Mind you, they're six and two-days-short-of-eleven and they haven't even thought of making me a card. Still, I'm taking us out to tea, and at least I can get some decorating done during the morning as long as I can ignore this niggling pain in my hip and back. Oh, and I have to do Tiddles' homework with him - the one he keeps having tantrums over - as otherwise he'd have to do it on his birthday on Sunday.
Moan, moan, moan. I'm going off birthdays.
I shouldn't complain, though. I have a new kitchen. It's my birthday present to me and I love it. It's just what I always wanted. I stand in there and just gaze adoringly at it. I wish I could wave a magic wand and transfer all the food, crockery and pans etc which are to go in the cupboards and which at present are totally cluttering up the bedroom and lounge. But one day it will all be done! And the joy of having a dishwasher is indescribable! :-D
And I bought myself a bunch of flowers which have to be, without a doubt, the most lovely flowers I've seen for a while. The bouquet was labelled "sorbet" and is an amazing mix of colours... green crysanths, pink and yellow carnations, and a single bright salmon pink daisy-like thingy (can't think of the name) with some whispy greenery. Gorgeous.
My other birthday present to me.. hmmm.... dare I say it? I have filled in the form to get the card which is available at reduced rate to council employees. For £20 a month I can use any of the facilities at any of the leisure centres on the Island for free. And the crazy golf, and the swan boats. I wonder which I shall use most often, the gym or the sauna? ;-)
Ah, what am I moaning about? A birthday's just another day, and there's plenty of fun things around to brighten my spirits.
