A houseful of men

Well, that's how it felt this morning, although when I come to think of it, the Jehovah's Witnesses were women. It was quite nice to see them, actually, as they never try even to give me a Watchtower, just chat about the weather and the children and my dad.

First man of the day was Tiddles - still very emotional after his counselling and needing lots of TLC. I did a deal with him - he's going to school for the morning but I am fetching him home at lunchtime to spend the afternoon with me and to catch up on some sleep.

Second, of course, was Smudgelet who was fed up of Tiddles getting all this attention and just burst into tears at the door on his way out to school. Loads of love and cuddles and reassurance needed - but he was not impressed to hear that he had to stay at school ALL DAY!

Then, as they leave, the plumber arrives. Three jobs on his list. Replace the gate valve on the tank (not a straighforward job, of course, as the old one was bigger than the new one so he had to put in an extra bit of pipe to fill in the gap. The welding torch kept setting off the fire alarm! Second task was mending that tap! That's a good job done. And finally I asked him to sort out the syphon on the toilet which was letting too much water through. Hmmmm.... to think that should have been a straightforward job! He had to make two trips to town to get replacement syphons as the first one was faulty! poor fellow had his head stuck in my toilet for hours!

While he was here, tools and bits of pipe strewn all over the floor, the computer man turns up. He switches on, shakes his head, tuts, and then sighs and says it looks pretty disasterous. The tower has now gone off to hospital to see if there's anything to be done for it. And I am left here with the monumental task of finding what on earth I have done with the blooming Microsoft ME disk. Last time I was determined to put it somewhere safe.

The good news is, Mr computer man was able to connect my laptop to my broadband connection so I am no longer paying double to go on the internet while my PC is incommunicado. Hooray! So much for getting any work done this afternoon.

Then a phone call from Dad - he's finally got his call-up for the hospital. Tomorrow morning. Cataract surgery. Typical, this means I now have to cancel my hair appointment (again) and lunch with a good friend (again). This is particularly frustrating as the friend was buying! He may think he's escaped.... but he's very much mistaken!

AS if all these men vying for my attention wasn't bad enough (It was quite comical this morning, running back and forth between the bathroom and the lounge saying "how's it going" to one after the other), the cat decided that actually HE was being disgracefully neglected. Thank you Charlie... I'm sure the scratch will heal eventually, and I suppose cat-fluff in my coffee adds a certain something to the texture.....
