Irritations and complications

Woke in a panic this morning as the penny dropped that they were expecting me in work on Monday. There'd been a sort of complication with my sicknote which meant that it could be read as me returning to work on Monday or the following week. Actually it was supposed to mean the following week, at the earliest! As it is, I can see me being off until the Easter Holidays as I find myself feeling quite panicky at the thought of picking up again that spinning plate which I'd been balancing on my foot (gosh, the analogy is soooo apt) and I was consequentally niggly with the boys today. I think I've sorted it, though.

I had to bite back my irritation with dad, too, although it was lovely to spend time with him today. I had promised to take the boys to Ottakers to spend their £1 book vouchers given in celebration of World Book Day, and decided I'd take them to MacDonalds for lunch. Dad, perversely, decided he quite fancied coming with us, despite detesting McD's. For his benefit I changed our plan and we went to Pizza Hut instead. It was lovely and we all enjoyed the meal.... apart from one of us. Yes, you guessed it! We had to wait too long to be served, his pizza was too dry, his lager too cold, his cheesecake too tasteless, the boys' icecream too indulgent, and the bill too high. From there the walk to the bookshop was too far, the shop too crowded, and he was too tired to stand around inside, so he'd stand around outside until we'd done. Great - high speed book choosing! The one good thing was that we were all rather tired and were home in time to go and have a siesta, whereas if it had just been me and the boys we'd have done the shops and probably even stayed out for tea.

Ah yes, I remember why we're tired. I took the boys swimming last night after counselling. We actually only have time for a twenty minute play, but as entry is "free" and we're right by the pool, it's worth it. I sent the boys in to get changed while I checked in at the desk.. and to my surprise, I saw a friend from work. It was lovely to see her - we stood and chatted and caught up on all the news. Then someone waved from the other ed of the foyer - a friend from my old place of work who I hadn't seen since I left two years previously. We had a good bit of catching up to do too. Then suddenly I remembered! I had stood there talking for about 20 minutes!!! The poor boys were sitting shivering in the changing room, waiting for me!!! Repentant, I simply had to give way on the late night and let them stay in the pool for half an hour. But we reaped the results today in two irritable and mopey boys. Hooray for bed time!

I now have a copy of Chocolat to read, as soon as I have finished my John Grisham. I'm loving having time to read!
