It is freeeeeeeezing here today. Absolutely freeeeeeeeeezing.
M and I had planned a morning out, possibly with a walk on Bembridge beach, but not surprisingly it turned into a cafe crawl. Well. we needed to get some seeds, and you can't get them all from the same garden centre now, can you? And you have to patronise the cafe while you're there or they might have to close down.
Spent a fortune on coffee and cakes and lunch and various sundry things which caught our notice. Hope the boys enjoy their "miniature garden" set, purchased at great expense by an indulgent mother. Now all I have to do is resist the temptation to open it before the boys come home. And I managed to buy my nephew a stick. Hope he appreciates that - I'm sure it's just what he always wanted. I can't wait to wrap it and take it to the post office!
Bought a butterfly feeding station for M's niece's birthday. I wonder what you feed butterflies on.
Was also rather tempted by a lovely set of crocks - there was a jar with a picture of garlic on the front for keeping your garlic in, a jar with a picture of onions on the front for keeping your onions in and, perversely, there was a large jug with a picture of a pea on the front...... (resisted the temptation to buy it for Dad)
We looked at the different flowers on sale in the garden centres too. M's a bit of an expert and is a great help to me, the utter gardening novice. She pointed one out to me and said, ""This one's a gardinia - you can tell by looking at the curled up buds." I replied that I had just been about to say something similar - "This one's a gardinia - you can tell by looking at the label on it which says gardinia".
M phoned me once we were both home and curled up by our respective fires, with a question she had forgotten to ask me. She was somewhat distracted as she spoke and I asked her what was the matter. "I've suddenly noticed I've got small droppings". I decided it was probably better not to ask!
I love spending time with M
