I came up with a stress free solution to the sock problem... or at least a way of transferring the stress. I mean to say, 37 odd socks and three pairs is a bit ridiculous... and finding enough school socks to get us through the week is impossible. The solution? Well, on Friday they are given the wash basket to put all their dirty clothes in. I wash and tumble dry everything over the weekend and on Monday they are given a wash basket full of clean clothes and given the task of finding their own socks.
This morning:
T Mummy, can we have some socks?
M Yes, they're in the wash basket if you put them for washing. Find them yourselves.
T Right, come on then. Socks, Socks, where are you socks? Ah here's a pair for me and a pair for you
Smudgelet.
S But mine are odd socks, Tiddles
T No they're not
S Yes they are, look!
T They're the same. Why would I give them to you and say they're a pair if they're odd
S But they're different
T Well, they're close enough for nobody to see the difference. They'll do, just get on with it and get dressed.
S Hold on, you're holding a pair of short socks. The short socks are mine, the long ones are yours.
T Ah yes. Bother, we'll have to swap.
S Why are you still looking for socks?
T Well, these are an odd pair, aren't they?
S Yes, but they're close enough for nobody to see the difference. Just get on with it and get dressed.
:D
Lunch was delicious, by the way, if rather immense. I am now unable to move! But the divine experience of raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake has to be tasted to be believed. We're now planning to go to the pictures to see Looney Toons with the boys as soon as we can fit it in, although both our diaries are looking a bit fun. As I said to her, fitting in all this relaxation is getting a bit stressful!
We now have seven, repeat seven baby marigolds. It's amazing - you can almost see them growing like the speeded-up films you see on TV. One minute the soil is all bare, the next we have tiny hints of green and then seven tiny little plants reaching for the sun. I'm as excited as the Smudgelets, I reckon.
I'd better get ready to pick up Tiddles from his climbing lesson. Now, where did I put my socks?
