Those boys! They'd booby-trapped the bath this morning. I moved three little cups from the rim of the bath - the stacking ones which they use to play with the water in the bath - and emptied the water out of them before I got in my bath. Trouble is, I hadn't spotted the biggest one which was just behind my right shoulder full of freezing cold water. No, not until it was too late!
It's always easy to tell when they're messing about while I'm in the bathroom and this morning it was obvious as there was a loud metallic banging noise repeatedly coming from the kitchen. I calmly enquire what the source of the noise might be. Smudgelet loudly declares that Tiddles is punching a foil tray (as you do). His brother indignantly cries out "You liar - you know it was you that was doing it!" I have a policy of only accepting explanations which start with the word "I" and I reminded them of that. Interestingly, both boys responded "We were punching the tray. X was doing it and so I did too"! Neither could bring himself to say "I was". It's hard to learn to take the blame... even when it's something I won't be cross about
Tonight my sister is arriving. Hooray - I can't wait to see her. Not that I'll see a lot of her, mind, as she's taking Dad out in the morning and then taking the boys out shopping for Mother's Day in the afternoon (bless her). Mind you, it means that today is taken up with preparations for her arrival. I was glad the cleaner was coming yesterday. She does two hours for me then goes over to my Dad for an hour. Because Dad had a friend going for coffee, he decided the cleaner should go to him first. Fair enough. Two and a half hours later she turns up at mine! "I'm sorry I've been so long. Your Dad has your sister coming tomorrow night and he wanted me to clean all through for him in preparation. I'm afraid it's only left me time to clean your kitchen floor and run the vacuum round the hall. He said you wouldn't mind." !!! To add insult to injury, it's me who pays her!
I'm glad it's torrential rain today.. oh, apart from the fact that my sister will have a really exciting ride on the ferry!!! I'd double booked. M and I have planned to take the boys to see Loony Toons in Action after school tonight to use up a voucher and I had forgotten that Smudgelet is supposed to be playing football. Thank goodness it'll be cancelled. The film will be a real experience for M who, at 75, hadn't heard of Bugs Bunny before. She's in for a .. well... er... an experience!
You should see our sunflowers! Three inches tall! And half a dozen nasturtiums now showing their heads. The excitement it only tempered by the knowledge that the next step is pricking them out.
