The first night

Left at 6.05pm and, surprising myself, didn't actually cry at the airport where I left behind my sister and my boyfriend. I even refrained from a dramatic run back down the corridor for a last kiss and cuddle!

I then had an excellent seat two seats away from a lovely English lady whose cousin worked at Qantas so there was a spare spot between us (and I was on the aisle). We travelled over some fires in Indonesia and even some lightening which was very exciting. I got chatting with my neighbouring passenger and at the end of the flight she gave me her contact details so that I could stay with her in West London for a few nights (and my boyfriend, when he comes over, can show them how their baby grand piano sounds). So far so good!

The new Bangkok airport is very lovely and I managed to get a decent exchange rate. I picked up my luggage and got outside the airport at around midnight (equivalent of about 4am Australia time). People were very helpful and I found the shuttle bus for my ever-so-expensive nights accommodation at the airport hotel (didn't really want to travel far at night). I got to my hotel and was very happy with my luxurious surroundings. Only problem was that I couldn't work off how to turn off the main lights to go to bed (I wandered around for a while trying all the switches). I eventually resigned myself to the fact that I would have to wear my airline mask but then I remembered the little panel of switches beside the bed and voila! After about 6 hours sleep and getting dressed, I have just come back from the most fantastic complimentary breakfast ever! I will enjoy my enormous bath soon and then I will have to get a taxi into town to find my next few nights accommodation.

I've started my adventure.
