I left my luxurious airport hotel (and my wireless connection) at a 12 noon check out time. I then caught a taxi to my other hotel in the city (can you believe it only cost me the equivalent of $8 when, for the same distance in Australia, it would have cost at least $40!). My taxi driver asked where I was from (a very common question) and I told him Australia. He tried to repeat the sound Austwalia...Aus... Austra....' He eventually just said kangaroo, right?'. He had it spot on.
I checked into my other hotel and it's fine except for the slight mould smell in my room. I do, however, have access to this miscellaneous (is that bad?) wireless connection in my room.
I subject myself to the 'torture' of a two hour thai massage this afternoon. It was the most amazing massage I have ever had, I had limbs being pulled in all directions and I was being trodden on... absolutely fantastic!
I then ventured out to a very new and very large shopping mall where I got myself some dinner. It's a great mall except it's all western' shops, Red Earth, Levi, Body Shop etc. Give me the Thai markets anyday. On my way home and almost turning into my hotel, I was stopped by a lady who asked where I was from. I told her Canberra, Australia. From then she took a great interest because her sister is just about to do some nurse exchange to Canberra. She took me to a local café and used my coupons to buy us some sweets which we ate as she chatted to me. She then invited me over to her house but by then it was night and I wasn't so keen on traveling at night let alone to somebody's house. We eventually came to the agreement that she would accompany me to a tourist attraction that I want to go to and she will bring her sister (the nurse who is going to Canberra) and their mother (who isn't convinced the sister should be going). Ah well, can't be too bad to have your own tour guide.
Tomorrow it's off to the famous Floating Market and Cultural Rose Garden.
My adventure continues.......
