These are from my last day in Bangkok. I took a boatride down the river (with my new hat from the markets):
This is the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun). I didn't actually get to go in because I ran out of time:
My first stop off the boat was The Grand Palace:
Then I went to the flower markets (these long stemmed roses are 60 baht, that's about AUS $2.40!):
The flower markets were amazing and it also happened to be the night of the Loi Krathong Festival which happens once a year. This means that not only were there the normal markets but people were selling special offerings for you to buy and float down the river as part of the festival. Some of the larger offerings looked like this:
This is me with my flower offering before we (my British friend who I had met that day), lit the candle and the incense sticks and floated it down the river:
5 hours later I was on my not-so-good (see below) planeflight to the UK. Now I'm in the Netherlands staying in this house for the next week or so (and very nice it is too!):
The streets are lovely as they are being decorated for Christmas:
I'm doing much better today although I did find out that it is going to take me over a month to get an appointment to sort out my residence permit (so I can live here) and my working visa so in the meantime, I might do some travelling.
