The two days that we have been in Cappadocia thus far have been absolutely amazing! On the first morning I decided to bite the bullet and pay for an expensive hot air balloon ride (but hey, they are expensive everywhere, right?). It was a rather surreal experience floating through the air. These are some of the landscape photos I took:
This is me in the balloon:
This was the look down:
That afternoon, after a sleep (we had a 5.15am start for the balloon ride), we went to the Goreme Open Air Museum. It is an interesting place where there are many cave churches and dwellings that you can go into. This is a photo from one of the cave churches called the Dark Church (it is a bit blurry because you are unable to use the flash):
Here is a photo of one of the fairy chimney buildings (the little holes and nitches are for pidgeons):
This afternoon we went on a 3 hour trek around Rose Valley (named because of the colour of the rock). This is my artistic photo of the day:
Here is us, almost at the top:
This was sunset:
Cappadocia is a rather odd place. The rocks and desolate landscape make you think that you have landed on another planet. I look forward to doing more exploring tomorrow before our 11 hour overnight bus trip to Istanbul.
