We got to Narbonne and picked up our traditional canal boat (this is something my father said that he really wanted to do):
The four of us then set off on our journey of the 17th century French canal known as the Canal du Midi:
There are the most beautiful old villages and wineries along this UNESCO Heritage listed Canal:
The Canal itself is quite lovely too:
What excited my father the most was the locks along the Canal. Particularly the 7 lock staircase at Beziers. I was on the front rope so I got a very close up view of the water rushing into the locks:
After returning our boat, we made our way to Barcelona. Barcelona was crowded with tourists but I absolutely loved it. I love the mosaics around the town and the artistic vibe of the place.
One of the most amazing places here was the Sagrada Familia. Started in the 1880s, this church is still being built. I hope that my photos can encompass the size of this place:
Gaudi's designs are based around nature so the colums in the church resemble trees with the roof being the tree canopy:
The artwork and sculptures are also mind-blowing (this is at the entrance):
We also went to see some other pieces of Gaudi's work:
It has all inspired me to take up mosaicing again!
Lastly, we all flew to Bilbao for my mother's treat which was to take her to the Guggenheim:
The boy and I then farewelled my parents after a few days of shopping and relaxing. It was sad to see them go, particularly because I won't know when I will be seeing them again.
Ghana is now confirmed, they have found me a placement and it looks like I will be going from the 1st of August for 3 months. I am now on the hunt for the best airfares.... Wish me luck!
