I am disappointed. I guess I was on such a high at having made it as far as the interview stage that I was gutted because I then wasn't actually given that chance (and therefore am not on equal footing with the other applicants). I do understand their point of view but it's fairly common practise to give phone interviews in Australia (maybe because we have such a big country?) and maybe I assumed that other countries did the same. They should have realised I was in Australia from my application (Australian phone numbers, Australian place of work) and put it in the "too hard" basket then, not after offering me an interview. I'm not saying I would have gotten the job but I would have liked the opportunity to try.....
I have sent a reply email. I didn't get much time to think about it as I accidentally pressed send rather than save (they both start with 's'.... whoops). It basically thanked them for the email and told them that I understand their situation but that I was disappointed I was unable to proceed further and that I would have been able to start fairly quickly if I was offered the job (which seemed a concern for them). I may have also mentioned that it was fairly common practise to give phone interviews in Australia. That's enough rant for today.
