Our driving means one less bird living in NZ :(

Besides that it has been a wonderful experience. I am utterly exhausted and still have 4 days to go! Thankfully I have planned to fill up the rest of the days relaxing in mud baths/thermal pools, having massages and cruising around the Bay of Islands. The rain has subsided for reasonable amounts of time. It is good to see so much water after leaving drought-stricken Australia but it has meant that some of our plans (bushwalking etc) have had to be cancelled at times. One thing that was affected was the Glow Worm caves because we couldn't do the last bit of the trek on boat due to flooding. Still got to see Glow Worms though AND we got the tickets at half price so that was good.

Forgot to mention that in the Cave there was an area called the 'Cathedral' complete with 'Pipe Organ'. The guide asked somebody to sing to show what the acoustics were like so with a little bit of proding from housemate, I sang a bit from an Italian Aria I had in my head. Everybody clapped when I sang a line and insisted I keep going so I sang some more. It was great fun and a very nice place to sing in. I wish I had been a little prepared though because I picked something I was learning (and didn't quite know yet). Ah well.

Scenery is not as beautiful in North Island and it seems alot more busy, still having a great time though.

WARNING: Be careful of the pointy bit of popper straws. Mananged to somehow jam it underneath my thumbnail. It bled everywhere and then persisted to be painful for a few days afterwards.
