I have had some bad luck with accompanists recently. Before you go thinking that I am looking for someone to blame for a few mistakes I will tell you the two storys of what happened:
The first is to do with the solo I had at Church last week for the patronal festiva. We were singing Gibbons 'This is the Record of John' which has solos for the verses. When it came to singing it, the first page went really well and then the organist turned too many pages and just stopped playing. He caught up and even got the chorus entry. Then it was the solo again and he was all flustered and couldn't find the right pages so I just kept singing regardless. What else could I do?
2) Then was my Bach Christe Eleison duet from the Bach B Minor mass last night. I guess it didn't help that it's a hard piece to play and the accompaniest had only looked at it 15 minutes before the 'concert'. He then decided just as we were about to perform, that he would get someone to play the bass notes and he would play the top. This hadn't been practised (with the pianists together or with us) so that was a little bit of a shambles.
This is from two accompanists that are usually excellent, I guess I am the common factor in this equation.....
[edited to please my other half - I have never been good at spelling 'accompanists')
