For once, I'm approaching the end of a weekend feeling that I've had value for money out of it. I've vegged about, done *some* housework, then last night Spike cooked, as he usually does on Saturday. We had chilled cucumber soup (v nice, but we both agreed maybe the recipe was misguided in asking for *two* cloves of garlic - lucky we were both having it!), followed by seafood pasta, finished off with fried bananas, served flambeed with a brandy sauce (and an unfortunate setting-fire-to-the-tea-towel incident).
We've recently checked back on the C1 channel, where they have re-runs that you can select and watch when you like, and found loads of new shows we didn't know were on there, so after dinner we settled down for a marathon Father Ted session. I still have 'My Lovely Horse' cantering round in my head. I've also discovered Series 9 of Friends (The One That Starts When Rachel Has Just Had Ross's Baby and Accidentally Gets Engaged To Joey) is there, waiting for me when I have a girly evening in ...
Today, we've been to church (note to self, at this time of year, when you can't find your page in the NEH in time and need to guess the start of the first line, Alleluia is a fairly safe bet). Then this afternoon we took Spike's mum out and pushed her round (not in) the lake. We also discovered that three people, a wheelchair and a driving school roof sign is the limit of a Vauxhall Corsa's carrying capacity. On the way back, we thought we'd call at a cafe by Streatham Common for a cup of tea, but changed that plan when we found that the annual kite flying festival was on, and there was nowhere to park. We saw lots of kites - in fact, we had a very good view as we spent about 20 minutes playing Car Chess as we edged our way along the road by the common, which isn't very wide and had cars parked all the way along both sides. It looked like the folks on the common were having fun though, and we've made a mental note to go next year - on the bus.
So now we are home and cruising towards going back to w*rk tomorrow - this week I have to prepare for my annual appraisal, oh joy.
