Overheard half of a phone conversation - the speaker is British and educated to postgraduate level:
'Hi, can I ask you a geography question? Where's Norwich?'
... 'East Anglia, right ... so where's that? I mean, which region would it come under? Would it be North East?'
'This map's only got the counties on it ... Oh, right, Norwich is in Norfolk then? That's what I needed to know, thanks'
Maybe I'm just crabby as I come to end of a second week of doing early shifts. The PIP-PIP-PIP-PIP, PIP-PIP-PIP-PIP of my 5.30 alarm has to be the worst sound in the world. On second thoughts, it's the 5.45 one, cos that really means I've got to get out of bed. Oh well, one more rudely awakened sleep till the weekend, then early shift again on Monday, then hopefully get my lates for the rest of the week.
* The spellchecker suggests maybe I mean 'get my lattes'. Nope, they're what I get on earlies, to wake me up.
