Ok, I'm supposed to be packing cos I'm also off to Greenbelt tomorrow, but I just had to share this with you. Sometimes there are things that make the tedium of working in retail bearable. Just sometimes.
Today I had a customer come in looking for binoculars. Being the helpful soul that I am I showed her where they were, explained the various options, and even allowed her to take them out and try them, at her request. After a moment or so looking at the opposite side of the store through them, she turned to me looking puzzled and enquired how to operate the zoom. Assuming she meant the focus, I explained how it worked, but she wasn't to be deterred and repeated the question. Now I had to admit I'd never used them before, but I knew there wasn't a zoom. Binoculars don't zoom. They are made to give a certain amount of magnification, and thats it. If you want them stronger you get a different pair. I tried to politely explain to this. At which point, she turned to me again, with a puzzled expression, and said 'But, everything's so close up when I look through them!' Well, blow me, binoculars that make things appear closer. Whatever next!
Have a good weekend all, and those of you who are also Greenbelting, wave if you pass me in the crowds!
