I give up

My Bible "isn't a proper Bible." Not even my King James Version with Apocrypha (the 1611 KJV was published with Apocrypha).

Using the Catechism to show what we believe is not acceptable. (Eh? How can I talk about the Church's teachings if I can't refer to the official teaching of the Church)? We didn't quite get to the point of her saying "I know what your church teaches, don't try and confuse me with facts!" but it was close.

I confess that one particular exchange had me in stitches. It was about Purgatory (the place of purification, not the Ship board). One of the standard prooftexts is in one of the Deuterocanonicals, so I dug out the quote.

"That's not in my Bible. I only accept texts from the King James Bible," came the reply.

"Oh. That's where I got the verse from," says I, all innocent-like.

Anyway, working on the principle that the best thing about banging your head against a wall is when you stop, I'm stopping.
