Scary stuff...

I meant to defrost the freezer yesterday, but I didn't. I shall have to hand back my Domestic Goddess halo. Although it was Sunday, and defrosting the freezer definitely comes under the heading of "work," so I don't feel too bad about it. I'll do it this evening. There, it's in writing so I've got to do it. "Bless me Father I have sinned, I didn't defrost the freezer when I said I would..."

It's getting awfully crowded in my freezer, I had to take the gin out the other week, which is frankly scandalous. At least there's room in there for the penguin ice-cube tray I got for Christmas from Golightlycat. Yes, I am bad, I opened a Christmas present before Christmas. But it was wrapped in purple tissue paper, so technically it's an Advent present. Honest.

Being it was the second Sunday of the month, it was the Lay Dominicans meeting yesterday. The format was different again, what with several people not being able to make it because of the fire at the oil storage depot in Hemel, so we didn't have Formation. Our Chaplain gave an excellent talk on Advent - he seems to have a knack of helping us to look at things in a different way. I really should start taking notes during the talks, because although the talk was excellent, I can't remember a thing about it.

One of the things I do remember from the business meeting is that the Lay Dominicans are tightening up their application procedures, so I will have to write a brief letter outlining my faith journey so far and why I want to join.

After Mass in the church, we went our separate ways. From Gospel Oak station I had an excellent view of the huge plume of black smoke from the oil storage depot as it drifted over north London. Reading the paper today and watching the news yesterday, it really is a miracle nobody was killed, and only two people hospitalised, from what is being described as "the largest peacetime explosion since World War II."

After I got home, I had a lovely phone call from the President of the Fraternity, apologising for the way the meetings I attend always seem to go wrong! We had a chat about how I'd found out about the Lay Dominicans, and was I happy about what I'd experienced so far, and the possibility was floated that I could make my Novice vows in March.

Um.

Wow.

Um.

This is quite scary, but it's good scary. If it does happen, it will happen during our yearly retreat at the Dominican Convent in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

Mum came to visit on the 7th December, bringing with her a bottle of wine (we like it when mummy comes to visit), and a finished party dress! Huzzah. It fits much better after all the Blue-Petering we did to it, although I have discovered that there is now yet another trip to Bravissimo looming in my future. There may well be photos, possibly, if I can remember how to upload photos to my website.
