When I was received into the Roman Catholic Church, I chose as my name saint St Catherine of Alexandria because, among other things, she is the patron saint of lacemakers and librarians - I make lace, and at the time I was studying for a degree in Information Management. Although the nun who taught me catechesis was at pains to point out that with the solid Biblical name of Deborah, I didn't have to choose a name saint if I didn't want to.
I found out recently she is also one of the patronesses of the Dominican order.
