I wish I was brave...

I work near Oxford Circus, which has a positive plague of street preachers (now with added megaphone)! One of them has been given an ASBO, but he has been replaced by a woman who tells anyone who walks past holding a shopping bag that they're worshipping Mammon. Now, she doesn't stand there naked (I suspect she's been reading some of those Modest Dress for Christian Ladies websites though). Even if she makes her voluminous skirts and blouses and straw hats herself, she has to buy the material from somewhere. And if she weaves her own cloth, she has to get the thread from somewhere. OK, I will concede that she might, just might, have a back garden given over to cotton plants, and a spinning wheel and dye baths in the shed, but it's somewhat unlikely. Clearly, she's a Hell-bound Mammon-worshipper herself.

I wish I had the courage to challenge her on this. I wish I had the courage to ask "why do you feel it necessary to wound the Body of Christ in this way? Why do you feel attacking people is the best way to spread the Gospel? Why can't you just shut up for five minutes and go and do something useful, like feeding the hungry or clothing the naked, instead of standing there abusing people and giving them the impression that 'being saved' is all about standing on street corners ranting? Do you have special access to the Lamb's Book of Life, to know who is damned and who is saved, that you can stand here and tell thousands of people that they're going to Hell?"

But I don't, I just seethe inwardly and then come on here and rant instead, because I am a coward. Bah.
