So, I came home from work via the laundrette (closed). But the dry cleaner next door was open. "Aha," thinks me. "she might be able to help." Apparently the laundrette is only open from 8-5, which is not terribly helpful. Humph. However, the nice dry cleaner lady gave me directions to a laundrette down the road which stays open until 8, so off I trotted home to get my laundry (still bagged up from the abortive trip last night), and off I went.

Onward, onward, ever onward, miraculously failing to run anyone over with my wheelie suitcase or send them flying with an ill-timed clonk round the head from the bag with all the towels in (now dried and stiffened to something approaching an old chamois leather, because of the soap residue from when the machine packed up halfway through a wash). I dodged the celebrating Ghanaian football fans, heading ever onwards. "The dry cleaning lady wasn't joking about it being a bit of a trek," I thought. "I'll be at my dentist's at this rate." Past the dentist, trundle trundle trundle went the wheelie suitcase, mumble mumble mumble went me, trying to guess if my arm was going to fall off. "You can't miss it," said the drycleaning lady, "it's yellow." (So was my arm by this point). And there it was! And the door was open! Hooray!

Three pounds forty p for a washing machine?!? Outrageous. It used to be a pound in Manchester when I were a student.

I have clean pants and a purse full of change, and I'm sure You're All Very Relieved.
