It's a complicated business, posting letters these days.
Time was, you'd rock up, plonk your whatever-it-was on the scales, you'd be told how much money you needed to hand over, hand over money, receive stamps, affix stamps to letter, post letter.
Now, they go on size as well as weight, so you have to try and ram your parcel through the gap in the bullet-proof screen, and pay extra if it doesn't fit.
And then they try and sell you things, like an upgrade to Special Delivery, and a credit card, and some home insurance, none of which I wanted.
Also, bear in mind I was doing this with a voice I can hardly raise above a whisper, and the whole thing just got too complicated for words.
