Today was supposed to go something like this:
Man come round to talk gas central heating, 8:00am
Other man come round to do the same, 10:00am.
Leisurely saunter into town, eye test, choose new glasses, leisurely saunter back in time to meet the man from Transco come to do an "alive or dead" check on the pre-existing gas supply.
Trip to supermarket to get scone ingredients.
In fact, today went something like:
Man come round to talk gas central heating, 8:00am (he turned up. On time. I like him).
Other man come round to do the same, 10:00am. (He phoned to say he was late, would be with me about 11:15. Had to rearrange for 3pm as 11:00 was when I was off for my eye test. It is now 15:08 and he is still not here).
Leisurely saunter into town (so far so good).
Eye test. Ah. We have hit a problem. "I don't like the look of that thing in your eye, hold still while I put these drops in. Oh, and there's a significant change in your astigmatism, you're going to feel seasick for two weeks whilst you get used to your new prescription, and here's a letter to your GP telling him to do you a referral to the eye hospital, immediately if not sooner."
Choose new glasses (managed to do that. Yay).
The leisurely saunter back in time to meet the man from Transco come to do an "alive or dead" check on the pre-existing gas supply turned into a mad scramble to get back for 2pm, didn't quite make it, and there he was, sat on the doorstep waiting for me. Typical. When they can turn up any time in a possible 4-hour time slot, they turn up bang on 2pm which is when you're still belting down the road to get home.
Trip to supermarket to get scone ingredients. Has not happened yet, I am awaiting the 3pm gas bloke.
And my eyes currently look like this:
