I had to change the lock on the postbox downstairs (I forgot to mention it to the insurance company, and I felt a bit stupid phoning up three days later). Replacement lock purchased at lunchtime today, I came home, and trotted back downstairs again with my trusty toolkit.
Replacing locks involves hitting things quite hard with a hammer. You'd think someone in the block would come out to see what was going on, but no.
As an aside, I can heartily recommend my insurance company, Liverpool Victoria - they have been wonderful. Their staff are unfailingly calm and reassuring, even when I was doing my best headless chicken impersonation (and I do a good headless chicken, believe me), my claim has been handled promptly and efficiently, and I'm just generally very pleased.
