just came home with four (4!) pumpkins to decorate my home with... they're beautiful, and foam or paper machet or something - if I take care of them, they'll last forever...one on the dining room table, as part of a center piece (may put some bittersweet in the pumpkin like a vase - not sure yet) ...one on the sideboard... one by the fireplace (it's decorative only - no flames), and one in the livingroom! i'm so excited! And bought some scented pine cones - think they'll be around the house in small bowls... yes, good idea.

am also drinking spiced chai tea... and tasting pumpkin ice cream. had some pumpkin bread earlier in the week - am thinking there's a pumpkin theme going on... pumpkin muffins anyone? (actually, do you have any fun pumpkin recipes to recommend? I'm hosting Thanksgiving this year - a friend and her parents are coming over to my new home... I'm thrilled, am open to trying new recipes)

So my dear friend A (bless her soul) spent about 7 hours with me today. We tackled the kitchen (now everyting has a place, and there's a place for everything), the dining room (also highly functional and just beautiful), and the living room (complete with candles, mirror hung over the mantel, and small lights - cozy).

See, this organizing stuff is fun for her. It's fun for me too - for about 20 minutes. Then after I've started something... and it's in the disaster-phase necessary to reach highly organized stage...I get too overwhelmed and have to come back later. So I stop. And often the project isn't finished... at least sometimes. Amy is awesome, because 1) it's fun for her and 2) she was a good 'task master' all day. I knew I'd be bossed-around today, but it was totally worth it. She was amazing... and we got so much done! I feel very encouraged, am planning to tackle a bunch more tomorrow - and can't wait to start the basement-phase.

Went to the craft store (where i bought the pumpkins) and picked up a few crafty-things...I'm excited. Will look for coupons in the weekend paper... and might shop next week - something to look forward to. Am thinking of a few more odds and ends... might start wrapping soon. I want to be able to bake/cook/decorate/enjoy the holidays without getting frazzled, you know?

Oh! on Monday night, I'm going to the pottery studio to glaze a few extra pieces I made before my last class was over - used cookie cutters to make ornaments! I'm planning to decorate or put an initial on one for each member of my family - and tie to the ribbon, or make it a seperate gift (perhaps that's safer re: breaking). ...Anyway, need to remember to bring the pieces up from the craft room in the basement... with my luck, I'll forget and my plans will be folied on Monday night - NO! DON'T FORGET! BRING THE UNFINISHED ORNAMENTS! PUT THEM IN YOUR CAR...RIGHT NOW! ok - i'll see what i can do.
:)

p.s. mom says that dad's condition is good, according to the nurses. he has been moved from the intensive care unit to another bed. I'm thinkin' that's a pretty good sign :)
