...because, i had one yesterday, but it wasn't a yee-haw! kind of adventure... not a roller coaster, or mountian climbing expodition. i suppose this was a domestic one.
yesterday, when i was home 'sick' (and yes, it must have been a real virus, b/c my temperature was up one whole degree...not sure of the conversion factor, but i had a low-grade fever, which can make anyone feel crabby)... anyway, yesterday when i was home, i worked more in the basement. it's looking nice, let me tell you! i'm thrilled.
so it was time to bring up some antique/family rugs I've been keeping safe down there...(2 braied by my grandmother, one needlepoint one by my grandmother, and two i didn't care about - they were just there to protect these 3 family pieces) they're all wrapped up together, in the corner of the basement. I'm ready to put one in my bedroom, another in the dining room, etc. So excited.
Start to unwrap them... and discover black mold! They must have gotten wet! Oh no! I immediately went upstairs, called my mom who suggested a carpet-cleaning place... made about 8 calls, finally found someone who sounded like they knew what they were talking about (whom i could trust with these fragile family pieces), went downstairs, wrapped up the rugs, took them to my trunk, got my boxcutter, cut out the carpet in the basement, wrapped it up, took it outside...hope the garbagemen take it today. we'll hope.
[meanwhile, my lungs are reacting b/c i'm actually moving the moldy things... i noticed the basement smelling a bit, but just thought that was normal basement smell...was planning to get a dehumidifier - which still isn't a bad idea - but unfortunately that wasn't the problem]
The people at the rug restoration place were not optimistic. They said there's been a lot of damage...and b/c they're so old there may be dryrot. but, after long discussion, we decided they'll clean each, and put an anti-mold solution on them... and then I'll come in, we'll discuss it, and we'll do any repairs later.
Mom says she won't disown me, she's not mad... these things happen. But I still feel incredibly guilty, and mad at myself for not responding to the odor sooner. Note to self: next time you smell something funny, investigate.
.......................................................................................
So, today woke up with one of those deep, pounding headaches... the kind you get when you've slept so hard. I don't know if I moved during the night.
I'm glad i'm home today... today's list of things to do includes 1) bleach the area where the rugs were moldy 2) do loads and loads and more loads of laundry, bring stuff upstairs 3) go to dollar store, get some tape, start wrapping 4) tidy up the kitchen 5) get some new dishsoap (which i'm not allergic to)
Have you ever been on myspace.com? A friend or two from highschool have a profile/blog thingy... I signed up a few weeks ago just so I could leave them a message - there's no personal information on it or anything. Nothing is filled out. Guess what? An ooooooooooold friend from my 1st college in Pennsylvania found me and contacted me! Strange. He said he looked up my email address in the myspace.com system... whatever. I still find that a tad bit unnerving. I've also looked at other profiles on that site, and decided that I'm very happy on the non-porn, relatively-free-of-bad-language-and-questionable-graphics wib :)
