car broken - an early morning adventure

had an 8:30 meeting yesterday morning... left my house with *just* enough time to get to work in time for meeting. i drive a manual transmission (stick shift). had lunch packed, put bags in car, hair fixed, coat & scarf in position, and hopped into the car to start the engine before i started scraping the frost/ice from the windshield. the car wouldn't turn over. i heard it start to try, but it was just a click. then...i realized. the clutch was frozen.

Frozen! i kept pressing on the clutch (which needs to be in for me to turn over the ignition...thus a safety feature to start the car). but it woudlnt' budge. never had the clutch freeze before... rats! what to do? have just enough time to get to work and be fashionably late. what to do? what to do?!!?!!?

called my friend C (who used to drive a stick shift) and she said...sorry dear, no idea - call the car dealership.

hmmmmmmm.... gonna be really late. Murphy's Law. in real life.

saw my neighbor - i told her a 1-sentence synopsis of the trouble, asked about her recent holiday...chit chat while i'm trying to 'unstick' the clutch by pressing really REALLY hard on it. ...really, really hard.

...then i called my coworker... because someone at work should know 1) i'm going to be late and 2) could she please take notes for me at the very-important-meeting.

...as I'm leaving her a message on her cell phone, i had a *revelation*...

wanna know what it was?!!??!!? do you?!

well... seeing as how i was going to jump back out of my car to scrape the windshield, i wasn't totally in the car to begin with... i was pushing on the clutch with my right leg to start the engine.

unfortunately for me, my right leg was actually pusing the BREAK the whole time. the Whole Time!

after realizing my humorous error, i put my left leg into the car, pressed on the clutch, turned the key, and the car began to purrrrr.

haHAHaHahaHAhaHAHahAhAHA!
(i was laughing so hard i was crying!)

so this all happened while i'm trying to leave K a message on her cell phone to tell her i'll be late to work... so she calls back, i click over, and i'm laughing... telling her the story... can't believe it... hahaha!

then i called C back - she was very appreciateive of the morning story - put her in a good mood.

then i called mom to tell her the story...she burst out laughing. mom said she told dad last night (he used to work with cars) and she said he laughed out loud. this is a man who is incredibly sick, so that's a good thing... i try to do what i can for humankind :)

our meetings typically never start on time, i got to work 4 minutes late... and there was still time to get a good seat.
