Greenbelt

I really enjoyed Greenbelt, even thought I didn't really go to anything!! There were various talks I'd have liked to have listened to, but they were all on during the daytime, which was when I had Alien with me. I have since bought and downloaded these talks, but whether I get around to listening to them any time soon is a totally different matter!!

I saw some of Jars of Clay with Auntie Doris which was good, and I walked past various bands and stuff. We sort of went to Beer and Hymns, but again, I had Alien with me which made it more difficult.

Alien enjoyed herself. She particularly liked the craft stuff and the whole atmosphere of it all. She wanted to stay the whole time and camp, but because I was volunteering, it wasn't practical so, since my in-laws live very near by, she went with them overnight. I registered her for the Children's Festival, but the timings didn't work for us.

We both enjoyed seeing lots of Shipmates on one of the afternoons too. I would've liked to have seen more of the lovely people we were camping with, but because of volunteer shifts and Alien, this didn't seem to happen.

But what I totally and thoroughly enjoyed was driving the taxis (aka golf buggies!!) around the site. It's fun driving them anyway and the team of drivers are great. Each day there was a theme, and a lot of the 'quiet' times passengerwise, was spent making up and singing songs down the (CB) radios which were linked to the themes.

Meeting so so many different people - of all ages and types and stuff is fascinating and most great fun! One particular memory, to me, sums up the variety of Greenbelt. I had 5 'yoof' (teenager aged), mixed race, streetwise looking lads who out of Greenbelt I would've been slightly apprehensive about passing in the street. However, these lads happily chatted away to me, and then proceeded to 'high five' everyone we passed all the way across the site. And the best bit, everyone responded - from children, to parents, to smart looking middle aged people to little old ladies - all smiled and 'high fived' them back. How utterly cool is that?!?
