Yesterday was not a bank holiday in England.
Except in our house.
When 'planning' this month last week, I saw that according to the calender it was a bank holiday yesterday, so spent some time looking for something to do as a family. I did find it slightly bizarre that there wasn't anything going on when I googled for events, but since I often can't find events, I assumed that was why.
There were so many things pointing to it being a bank holiday, apart from it saying on my calender. The post box I posted a letter in on Sunday said that the next delivery was Tuesday. I'd mentioned it to my in-laws that we were planning on doing something because it was a bank holiday. I'd said something to nursery about presumably they were shut on the next bank holiday (meaning the following week, she presumably meant the one at the end of August). A parcelforce collection someone had arranged from me was coming on Tuesday.
So off we went yesterday, finding it slightly bizarre that *everyone* had their bins out, but we hadn't cos bin men don't come on bank holidays.
And all the shops and everything was open.
So I missed the bit in brackets on the calender saying 'Scotland and Eire'.
Socks is ripping the piss. My landlord is ripping the piss. Nursery are evidently going to ripping the piss since Socks apologised for Alien not being in nursery and us not letting them know (something we're usually very good at).
So I can't read.
