Fireworks

Last night I bought a smallish box of fireworks cos I wanted Alien to see some! She was totally mesmerised by them. She even didn't mind the ones which banged (we only had one set which banged). But she didn't like the one which went 'whheeeeeeeeeee', which was a shame really cos it was the last one and she screamed when it went off!

After church tonight, the Cheltenham Ladies College had a display in their field which is just opposite church. It was the biggest display I have ever seen - even bigger than the huge one at Cheltenham Race Course, or Gloucester Docks. It was huge. And some of them were even too big and loud for me. Me who loves fireworks!!

I meant to go to church this morning cos I had to see people about a youth group social thing next week. I was lying there with Alien in bed at about 9.15 thinking that I ought to get up, and the next thing I knew the phone was ringing and it was the choirmaster asking if I was gonna be at church this morning cos they needed me to sing. By this point it was 10.10. Now since neither Alien nor I were dressed or had had breakfast, it just wasn't happening!

Church was sooooo totally tediously boring tonight. It was evensong, which meant we sang the Mag and Nunc to a 'proper' setting (Murrel in E) and did the psalm unaccompanied, but we didn't do an anthem as not enough people arrived on time for the rehearsal! I quite like doing Evensongs generally as we usually only get about 12 of us and it makes a really nice little 'chamber like' choir. But the vicar is away at the moment and we had two readers leading the service. The one who led the service has a very annoying tendacy to add 'pregnant pauses' at every single opportunity. He makes everything sound 'meaningful' and dramatic, even the notices. This means that whenever he leads the service it tends to be much much longer than normal.

The other reader preached. Now he's a lovely guy, and is very intellectual and I'm sure very interesting, but unfortunately he has something wrong with his throat (I can't remember what, but I know he's had operations on it), which means that he's very difficult to understand. A 25 minute long sermon which is difficult to hear makes for a rather boring sermon (mind you, it doesn't bother me, I spent the time on my PDA msn'ing Emma and people, and reading The Ship!). There were soooo many complaints after the service from the choir! Evensong is supposed to be a nice short service. This certainly wasn't.

And yet again, Alien was horrible for Socks. I don't know why, but she really doesn't like it when I go out and he puts her to bed. He's given up trying to bath her cos she screams at him, and tonight she screamed for a while after he'd fed her too. Very strange.
