This morning I sang at a (www.stmaryswarwick.org.uk) (tried to hyperlink, but I'm not spiggin clever enough, even with copying the code from Chas!) St Marys Warwick for a friend of a friend who needed an extra sop!! We started rehearsing at 10.10am, finished rehearsing at 10.58am and the service began at 11am. This was the only rehearsal there was, and most people were sightreading most of the music. There were 3 sops, 1 alto, 3 tenors and 2 basses, so it was rather obviously if anything was sung wrong! Luckily it was all music I know.
We sung:
Some responses I didn't know (and cant remember who they were by)
Random Venite (which had 3 halves to the chant, rather than two - weird (yes, I know you can't have 3 halves!!))
Psalm 150 (the well known version!)
Howells - Te Deum and Jubilate
Howells - Like as the Hart
I rather enjoyed it, despite the fact that I could only really hear one of the tenors and one of the basses singing(I assume everyone else was actually singing!).
The church choir I sing with are singing at (www.stpauls.co.uk) St Pauls on the bank holiday Monday at the end of August. It would appear that I'm not going to any rehearsals before that either, so although I know some of the music, I'll be sightreading the rest!
We're singing:
Jackson - Mag and Nunc in G
Clucas - Responses
Sowerby - Make a Joyful Noise
Then sometime in October or November or something, I'm helping with another choir who I help out and sing with at (www.gloucestercathedral.org.uk) Gloucester Cathedral at their St Georges Day service each year. There's two services they want me to do with them, one at the Cathedral, and one at (www.prinknashabbey.org.uk) Prinknash Abbey (which will be one of the last ones held at the Abbey as the monks are moving house!)
The music for those are:
Brun - Messe "O Vierge Tres-Belle"
Victoria - Ave Maria
A random communion setting
John Harper - Nunc Dimitis (I thought it had 2 t's, but there's only one on the cover!)
D R Jones - Praise the Lord, the Crafter of Life
Faure - Requiem
I think the only thing I know is the Faure and I don't know if we're doing all of that, or just the Pie Jesu from it (which is why I know we're at least doing that bit, cos that's me!!).
I sometimes think that I miss singing in the decent choir I used to sing with, but I seem to be having plenty of opportunities to sing, without the need to be 'tied' to a choir and lots of rehearsals.
