Robert, my vicar and boss buys us books for Christmas and this year I received 'Stories behind Women of Extraordinary Faith'. Robert said he hoped that it would encourage me as Kole's in hospital and I'm at the other side of the world etc.

I loved it, have read it before Christmas, and was encouraged. It's a book of 20 stories of famous women in history who have showed extraordinary faith. People like Catherine Booth, Mother Teresa, Lottie Moon. Each have an amazing story of faith and many have changed the course of history impacting many lives and usually the society they live in too.

It's easy reflecting on someones whole life to dismiss it, presuming that these people are different or stronger and so able to do these things but we're looking at it with hindsight. I dare say that these women didn't feel like that. The stories often involve conflict, the ability to stand and be different, rejection. Things we would all find hard, and they probably struggled, despaired, maybe even wondered why as they went through their various circumstances and yet through it all they still had faith. They knew that faith as small as a mustard seed moves mountains. I also wonder if these women had any idea of the impact that they made in this world, i guess to them they were just living their life and being obedient to God. It's a reminder that God often uses us in ways we do not realise and that we need to be obedient too.

Robert didn't know but I've been reading lots of books about people of faith but people with a mission focus, like Jackie Pullinger or Heidi Baker. I feel really excited about mission at the moment and really challenged to pray for the world we live in.

I found this so encouraging I feel really challenged by the way these people live their lives in such a self sacrificing way. My prayer is that I have open ears to hear, obedient feet to go where He sends, and a heart full of his love and joy to share with others.
