Baptism

Baptism is such a special thing. The time when a Christian publicly declares that they believe Jesus died for them and loves them, choosing as a result to follow him and be in a relationship with him for the rest of their life. It's a major decision that is so exciting whoever it happens too! But somehow when a child makes that decision my heart skips a beat and i feel overwhelmed with joy!
Next Sunday (13th) we have a baptism and reaffirmation service in church a mixture of both children and adults. I have two children being baptised and so have been doing baptism prep with them. I really struggled to find resources to use in baptism prep with children which really surprised me (although I may have just looked in all the wrong places) and so I wrote my own. A four week programme
- The cross and resurrection
- Holy Spirit
- I'm a new creation
- Following God
So far we've only done week 1. But both children could explain to me clearly both what it meant to be a Christian and why they wanted to get baptised, the words 'Jesus' and 'best friend' being used. So we looked at easter finding out why Jesus had to die and what that means for us. So exciting! Next week we'll look at the Holy Spirit and the role he plays in our lives and why he's important.
