...Friday morning was all about queueing to get onto the Greenbelt site, but soon we were settled in a nice plot not too far from the main events. There was much tent peg bending and gazebo construction. I am sure pictures of the wonderful Wibsite gazebo will be on the site soon.
We first headed to the opening ceremony, which we managed to miss (oh well, it's always dull anyway!) the off to the bar to meet up with some people from Ship of Fools. I was all in a bit of a daze but managed to briefly meet a few people before it was time to go off to Eden Burning.
Eden Burning were one of my favourite bands about 10 years ago (I had 3 t-shirts once!) and they were getting back together for a re-union gig after 7 years. I suspected they would be fairly awful - and they were!
The quality of music jumped when Waterson:carthy delighted us with their traditional folk, although they did not seem in the high spirits that the next act was. Kate Rusby was simply fantastic, and was certainly one of the highlights of the whole weekend for me. Not only does she have a fantastic voice, but she also has a great wit and a lovely northern accent. Anyone who was not entertained by her in some way is just not normal!
We then headed up to Steve Stockman's "magazine" style show, it was very entertaining although many of the people who were supposed to be interviewed and playing got caught up in another event. (I can't actually remember who was there, I am sure Amanda knows).
We got back to our tent to find that someone had put their tent literally on top of ours (well, a corner of it), then kept banging on the tent to stop me snoring - well, it's their own fault for camping so close! Next year I am making a sign for the tent "Keep Your Distance - Snorer Inside".
