...the new Dido album will be out in a few weeks, and I am looking forward to it much! But noticed on Amazon.co.uk this warning:

This CD includes anti-copying technology that is intended to prevent unlawful copying of the CD with a PC. This may affect playability of the CD on certain computer devices such as PCs and gaming platforms.

Now I am all for cracking down on unlawful copying of whole albums (I feel that compilation CDs for friends should be exempt, they only help people hear other great artists and types of music, and encourage sales!), but I think they may be in fact encouraging people to get MP3s of the album from the net.

How many people do you know who listen to lots of CD through their computers, or on the playstation - certainly in my case it is quite a lot. Often you don't buy a CD player for a computer room, or link up the gamesystem to your Hi-Fi. If you see the above disclaimer you are going to think "well, it might not work on my player, no point taking the risk", you will then find a copy on the net (and copies will get out, I can think of at least 2 ways of copying the CD into mp3 format, and I am not a technical person) download it, burn it to a CD, which will work in all your machines.

They are making things worse for themselves by doing this, but somehow people need to be educated somehow to buy music they like to keep the music industry turning over.
