Scabby look back on...

...Sorry to all those people who hate the word "scab" so much.

The PCS have announced the strike is back on for the 16th/17th of this month, not all of DWP this time, just Job centres and benefits this time (oh and Driving examiners for some odd reason).

Again I will be proudly breaking the strike, and with a planned “work-to-rule” for the days following the strike I may even be able to pick up some overtime as well. I have already been accused of “undermining the work of the union” - but then I am not a union member, so why would that bother me?

I have been slightly annoyed this week about the attitude of some (and only some) people around. One new person I was speaking to had been told that only 7 people were coming in on the strike day, and she really should not bother coming in (in fact the prediction is that at least half off the staff, well over 50 people, will be coming in).

Not only that but an article was published in one of the red top newspapers about Job losses about to happen within the Jobcentre network - In fact DWP have no plans to axe any jobs other than temporary contracts that are soon to come to an end. Propaganda to increase union support perhaps?

Of course the opposite is also true, in any dispute propaganda will be rife, and I am sure our employers are quite capable of producing some of it themselves.

Ah, it looks as though cynicism runs through me way to deep really, but I am really interested to see what being involved in a strike is like firsthand!
