I will review the weekend backwards, starting with Monday (which I realise is not really the weekend, but it felt like it because I had the day off).

Monday evening was off to Bristol to see Elbow. It was my first time at the Carling Acadamy and I was very impressed by it, a compact venue that gets a suprising amount of people packed in. The decor looked slightly 80's, but the atmosphere was one of up close and personal. We were at the back of the main section, and were still closer than we are at most venues even when we try to push to the front.

Elbow were supurb, Guy Garvey (I think that's his name) was a humourous character who was hobbling around on stage waving a walking stick (due to a unexplained foot injury). He was quick with comebacks from comments shouted from the crowd, and his voice is so strong live (despite the smoking on stage). Great songs, great band, great lighting, great venue! Their support band was great too, an electro/indie/rock group called Mew. At times there was a touch of the Fall about them, at times a touch of Savage Garden. You cant say that about many bands.
