...I never reveiwed the CDs I got the other day so I will do one of them now.

Mary Ann Meets the Gravediggers and Other Short Stories is a sort of best of compilation from Regina Spektor, a unique singer/songwriter from New York. You may have heard the single Us on 6Music, XFM or late night Radio2. While this single is still my favourite track on the album the rest is also excellent, although much less accessible. The lyrics are sinister and eerie in places, and the art in the booklet reminds me of Edward Goreys dark cartoons. I tried to go to sleep with the album playing the other night and couldn't sleep, it is not easy, soothing music. Comparing it is hard, there are touches of Tori Amos, the songs similar to The Firey Furnaces, but what I like about it is that it is so unique.

Certianly the best album of the year so far (but it is still early!)

...Pavlov's daughter woke up in the morning
Heard the bell ring
And something deep inside of her made her want to salivate.
