Work and non-work...

...Yesterday at work was so chaotic, with nearly 5 hours on inbound jobseeker calls. It is very draining when the moment you release a call another one is there. I can sustain it for about half hour, but after that I start to speak jibberish and get bored.

The problem is that it's the way things are going in the contact centre, more and more inbound work with other work being phased out. We have known this was going to happen for a long time, but the reality is starting to hit home. I am not sure that I want to, or even can, deal with 6 or 7 hours a day on inbound calls with no variation or freedom to choose the type of work I do. It may send me insane.

That's why I am grateful that I can have today off, for all the disadvantages of the job one of the advantages is still the "Duvet Day" system that allows annual leave to be taken at whim. This system is being reviewed in 3 months though...

I guess perhaps it's time to think about work, and what it means to me and what is important about it... Security? Money? Satisfaction? Flexibility? People?

Food for thought... and on that note time for breakfast!
